GRIMSØN ANNOUNCES SUMMER EP OUT AUGUST 15
SHARES FIRST SINGLE “WHAT CAN I KEEP?”
RIYL: Andy Shauf, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead, Elliott Smith
What Can I Keep? is the first single off Grimsøn's sophomore release, "Summertime in Grimsønville" out independently on August 15.
Originally a native New Yorker, 26 year old Grimson moved his multimedia animated project to Berlin, where he carved a niche as an underground singer songwriter and animator for indie rock titans like Weyes Blood and Sharon Van Etten.
Grimson follows his 2023 debut album "Climbing Up The Chimney" whose animations and Kinks-esque hooks found virality on TikTok, with a softer, more wistful and introspective summer EP.
What Can I Keep tells the heartbreaking and deeply relatable story of staying in contact with one’s ex - exploring the intimate details of closeness and distance:
“Love, you say, is many things. For us it’s not a wedding ring. It’s this, right now, my ugly tears - the laughs we’ll have in twenty years.”
The song was recorded live in New York City after Grimsøn put together an impromptu band for The New Colossus Showcase Festival, hiring saxophonist and rapper Josh Boucicaut after seeing his band Libby Quinn perform a day earlier.
Engineering and mixing was handled by Matt Scatchell, most notable for his work with Charlie XCX and James Blake. Animation was once again handled by Grimsøn himself; a mysterious and moomins-esque clip that demonstrates Grimson’s animated universe of characters and songs.
What Can I Keep is currently on rotation on the Spotify Editorial Playlist Indie Brandneu.
